Flights to Tamale cancelled over bad weather

Planes flying from Accra to Tamale had to return to Accra Tuesday morning as a result of poor visibility that made it impossible for flights to land at the Tamale Airport.

According to Graphic Online correspondent, Samuel Duodu, this was due to bad weather in the Northern Region that first occurred in the early part of this year, leading to the cancellation of flights for some time until the weather conditions improved.

Aviation officials at the airport explained that the level of visibility needed for landing had dropped to as low as 400 metres and therefore flights from Accra to Tamale could not land at the airport and had to return to Accra.

“We are hoping that the conditions would improve by the day so that the flights can return to Tamale this Afternoon around 2.30pm”, the officials observed.

According to the officials, visibility levels needed for landing is 1,800 metres and above.
