Dr Edward Mahama appointed Ambassador-at-large
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has named 22 persons as ambassadors to man the country's missions abroad.
Among them is the 2016 flagbearer of the People’s National Convention, Dr Edward Mahama, who has been appointed as Ghana’s Ambassador-at-large.
As Ambassador-at-large, Dr Mahama has been made a diplomat of the highest rank, with special duties, and can represent the country anywhere internationally.
At a brief but colourful ceremony at the Flagstaff House Monday, the President presented Dr. Mahama with his letter of credence, together with 21 others.
Onerous responsibility
President Akufo-Addo said the “distinguished men and women” were carefully selected as ambassadors to safeguard and promote the interest of the country outside its shores
He said the appointees had distinguished themselves in several fields, and were eminently fit to represent the country in the areas they had been selected to.
The President said the diplomats had onerous responsibility to promote a country whose reputation among the comity of nations was very high, and regarded as one of the most stable on the continent.
“You have three major roles to play; diplomatic, ceremonial and administrative,” he told his diplomats and advised them to guard jealously, the country’s image because they were the visible symbols of the country.
