Court quashes Charles Antwi's conviction; orders psychiatric examination
The Accra High Court Human Rights Division has ordered the release of Charles Antwi, the man who was jailed for going to President John Mahama's church with a gun with the intention of killing him.
This followed the granting of the certiorari application filed by Antwi for the court to quash the 10-year jail sentence, that was given to him by the Accra Circuit Court on a charge of possessing a gun without license.
According to Graphic Online's reporter, Nana Konadu Agyeman who was in court on Monday morning, the High Court said documents presented to it clearly show that the Accra Circuit Court that jailed Antwi erred in its ruling.
It therefore ordered the release of Antwi from prison custody to the Accra Psychiatric Hospital, for him to be medically examined to ascertain his mental state of mind.

After that, the Chief Psychiatrist, Dr Akwasi Osei is to be subpoenaed to give evidence on the mental state of mind of Antwi in court.
According to our reporter, the High Court also maintained that the Circuit Court erred on the face of imposing a 10-year jail sentence instead of the 5-years required by law.
It said Antwi was not entitled to any damages.
