Businessman donates to June 3 flood victims

A Ghanaian businessman, Dr Benjamin Quartey Papafio, has called on the city authorities to adopt a comprehensive engineering plan for the drains in the capital.

He explained that the poor management of the Odaw River and some drains accounted for the many floods in the city.

He made the call when he presented a variety of items worth ¢8,000 to 50 victims of the June 3, 2015, flood and fire disaster in Accra.
The items included mosquito nets, medication, rice, soap and towels.

Dr Papafio, who is the Chairman of Reroy Group of Companies, manufacturers of electrical cables and conductors, said his company’s head office at Odawna was also badly affected by the floods. He presented the items on behalf of the company.

''Our computers, cables, raw materials, files and some vital documents were all destroyed by the floods,” he said.
He said the donation was to brighten the lives of the victims.

Madam Lilly Lokko, a beneficiary of the items, on behalf of the victims, expressed her gratitude to the company for the gesture.

The Assembly Member for the Odawna Sahara electoral area, Mr Hendrick Kinnah, advised the residents of the area to come together to embark on a crusade to curb littering in the area.
