Apesokubi Traditional Council holds maiden meeting
Following the elevation to the status of a paramountcy, the Apesokubi Traditional Council has held its maiden meeting at Apesokubi in the Biakoye District,
At the meeting last Tuesday [Dec 24, 2024], the people thanked the government for creating the Oti Region which has enabled them to attain what they have been asking for since 2012 when they were under the Volta Region.
This elevation has now enabled them to have their own Traditional Council, which was inaugurated by the Ministry of Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs on April 16, 2024, with a membership of 14.
Opening the meeting, the President of the Traditional Council, Nana Okogyeam Kwasi Asiedu Attu Koram II, was grateful for the role that the Oti Regional House of Chiefs played in granting them their request.
He urged the members to discharge their duties diligently and with dedication and endeavour to work hard to offer the needed cooperation for the development of the area.
Nana Attu Koram II took the opportunity to call on the members to come together to prove that they can be on their own and operate as equals to integrate the people for peace and socio-economic development.
“Now that we are on our own, we can understand each other better and cooperate for development, progress and unity.
He encouraged those who have not yet been gazetted to have it done as early as possible to prove their recognition.
Two committees of the council, the Finance and Welfare was established, and work was started on the preparation of their Standing Orders Committee.
The Counsel of the Oti Regional House of Chiefs, Kwadwo Addeah-Safo, presented to them the Chieftaincy Act,2008 ( Act 759) and told them that in January of next year, they would undergo a capacity-building programme to enable them to understand their roles properly.
Mr Addeah-Safo noted that the traditional council has the status of a circuit court and, as such, would be briefed on its specific rights and responsibilities.
