150 students attend empowerment event Marking International Day of the Girl Child in Suhum

Engage Now Africa (ENA), in collaboration with the Ghana Health Service (GHS) and the Ghana Education Service (GES), marked the International Day of the Girl Child with an empowering event for 150 students.

The gathering aimed to inspire young girls and raise awareness on critical issues impacting their health and well-being.

The Municipal Girl Child Officer, Madam Asantewa Patricia addressed the students, emphasizing the pivotal role of women in shaping the future.

She highlighted that the future is bright and relies heavily on the contributions of women, encouraging the girls to take up their rightful places in society.

Dr Seth Effah Agyei also provided essential education on adolescence and breast cancer, ensuring the students were well-informed about these important health concerns.

Engage Now Africa focused on raising awareness about human trafficking, detailing its devastating consequences. The students showed deep interest, actively engaging in discussions and asking questions about the involvement of parents in child trafficking and exploitation.

During the event, four victims were identified—two of child labor and two of sexual exploitation. These cases are now under investigation by ENA in partnership with the Department of Social Welfare.

The event left the girls feeling empowered, as it exposed the challenges many face and reinforced the need for ongoing protection and support in their communities.
