Sick bay for Abesim St. James Seminary, SHS
A sick bay constructed by the Sunyani Municipal Assembly through the Urban Development Grant (UDG) at a cost of GH¢34,240.00 for the St. James Seminary and Senior High School
(SHS) at Abesim, near Sunyani in the Brong Ahafo Region, has been inaugurated .
At the inauguration of the facility, the Municipal Chief Executive ( MCE) for Sunyani, Mr Kwasi Oppong Ababio, said the constructIion of the sick bay was necessitated by an unfortunate incident that occurred on the school campus two years ago, during which two students lost their lives as a result of a lightning that struck them during a rainstorm.
He noted that if the school had such a facility, the students would have received immediate medical attention before being transported to the regional hospital for treatment to save their lives.

Mr Ababio urged the school authorities to take good care of the facility to prolong its lifespan and, added that the assembly had plans to upgrade the facility into a clinic in the near future.
The Rector of the school, Reverend Father Alex Ansu Ebo, expressed his gratitude to the assembly for the gesture and appealed for the construction of an administration block that would befit the status of the school as one of the best schools in the country.
Recounting the academic performance of the school, Rev. Fr Ebo said the school performed well in the 2011 and 2012 West Africa Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) and attributed the achievement to diligence and discipline.
He commended the assembly for constructing a six-unit classroom block for the school and urged it to complete the three-storey dormitory block under construction.
The Municipal Disease Control Officer, Mr Samuel Addo, who gave a talk on the just-ended nation-wide measles rubella vaccination exercise, said a total of 52,863 out of the target of 55,403 children were vaccinated in the municipality representing 92 per cent achievement.
Mr Addo noted that although those who were vaccinated slightly fell short of the target, the exercise was a success and commended all stakeholders, especially parents and teachers, for their support during the exercise.
According to Mr Addo, measles has been identified as one of the leading causes of blindness and deafness among children, but its incidence had been drastically reduced in recent years because of the vaccination exercise.
He thanked the assembly for the gesture and said the Municipal Health Directorate would post a nurse to man the sick bay.
