Led by their teachers and officials of the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA),  in the Ashanti Region the team first visited the Manhyia Palace Museum at Manhyia, where they acquainted themselves with the rich cultural heritage of the Asante Kingdom.

On their arrival, they were welcomed with a video documentary which depicted the foundations and liberation of the Asante people.

The team then went to the Okomfo Anokye Sword Site at the premises of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH).

What astonished the children most during the visit was the story about how Komfo Anokye conjured the Golden Stool, popularly known in Kumasi as “Sikadwa Kofi” from the skies, as well as his insertion of the sword into the ground.

The delegation climaxed the tour at the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) Museum, where the students were taken through the landmarks in the history of the country and a narration about the great leaders of Ghana as well as their contribution towards the country’s freedom from the colonial masters, the British.

They also saw some of the ammunitions the military used during the First World War.

The Ashanti Regional Manager of GTA, Mr Ekow Sampson, who led the delegation, commended the authorities of the various historic sites for imparting knowledge to the young.

He called on managers of educational centres to form tourism clubs in their respective schools in order to help promote domestic tourism in Ghana.

This year's World Tourism Day was dubbed:"Tourism for All, Promoting Universal Accessibility."
