Radio learning programme for BECE candidates in Obuasi
Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) candidates at Obuasi in the Ashanti Region and its environs will benefit from a live radio distance learning programme introduced by AngloGold Ashanti (AGA).
The programme will assist the final-year students to enable them to prepare adequately towards the BECE.
The programme, which is being implemented in collaboration with the Otumfuo Osei Tutu II Charity Foundation and the Ghana Education Service (GES), is aimed at, among others, increasing the pass rate in the BECE from 80 per cent to at least 90 per cent.
AGA also supported the Otumfuo Osei Tutu II Charity Foundation with Gh¢ 150,000 to purchase and distribute 10,00 copies of readers and workbooks for JHS students in the Obuasi Municipality.
The Senior Sustainability Manager of AGA, Mr Emmanuel Baidoo, speaking at the launch of the programme expressed appreciation to the Otumfuo Foundation and the GES for the quality educational programmes introduced to the people of Obuasi.
The Chairman of the Otumfuo Foundation, Dr Thomas Agyarko , asked the people of Obuasi to unite and strongly support the programme to ensure that it became a success.
The Obuasi Municipal Director of Education, Mrs Regina Musa Mumuni, said the directorate would use the books to enhance students’ performance.
