Be inspired by Ramadan and avoid violence

The  National Chief Imam, Dr Sheikh Usman Nuhu Sharabutu, has advised the youth to take inspiration from the spirit  of Ramadan and  avoid all forms of violence  after the Supreme Court verdict.

Speaking on behalf of the Chief Imam in an interview with the Junior Graphic, Alhaji Alhassan Abdulai, a member of the National Chief Imam’s Educational Fund reminded Muslims to uphold righteousness and respect authority, such as the Supreme Court.

"Children must obey  authority;  they should not join bad groups that will tarnish the image of the religion because Islam means peace," he added.

His advice comes  as  the Supreme Court prepares to give it's final verdict on the December 7 and 8 Election Petition, amidst widespread fears of likely violence.

The Islamic scholar also called on  politicians not to entice the youth with gifts  to engage in hooliganism  after the verdict and cautioned the  youth to be on their guard against  any baits to get them to misbehave.

Dr Sharabutu further admonished the youth to reflect on the lessons they had learnt from the Ramadan and keep the period holy. "Ghana is one nation with a common destiny and we should  not do  anything that will disturb the peace of this nation," he said.

He also said the Office of the Chief Imam had  continuously  asked all Muslims to pray for the nation before, during and after the Supreme Court verdict. The Chief Imam said he was sure that peace  would prevail after the verdict was given.
