    A joint study by the African Centre of Excellence in Public Health and Toxicological Research (ACEPUTOR), University of Port Harcourt, Nigeria, and the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Kumasi, has revealed alarming levels of cancer-causing chemicals in meats singed using tyres.

    THE WENCHI Methodist Hospital in the Bono Region has announced its plan to conduct mass burial for 28 unclaimed and unidentified bodies at the hospital’s morgue.

    The hospital said the bodies had remained in its mortuary for almost three years thereby causing congestion at the facility.

    In a press statement signed by the Wenchi Municipal Coordinating Director, Jimah Yakubu, the hospital said the unclaimed corpse had hindered the smooth operations of the facility.

    Consequently, the family has obtained the permission of the Dufia of Anloga and Dome Fiaga of the Anlo State, Togbi Zewu IV, to beat the gong-gong to inform the community about their intention to find the perpetrators of the dastardly act through a kind of ‘trial by ordeal’ at the Nogokpo Yewe traditional temple.

  • Cholera cases at Agona Swedru rise to 214

    The number of suspected cases of Cholera recorded in the Agona West Municipality of the Central Region has risen to 214.

    Officials from the Ghana Health Service in the municipality said a total of 11 cases have been confirmed so far, putting authorities on high alert.

    On January 2, the disease claimed one life and the victim passed away at the Swedru Government Hospital.

  • 9 Districts in Ashanti top underage sexual activity - GSS study

    Nine out of 10 districts in the Ashanti Region have the highest rates of underage sex among females, a study by the Ghana Statistical Service (GSS) has shown.

    The report indicated that adolescent girls aged 16 to 19 had sex before the age of 16 years.

    The districts are Akrofuom, Amansie South, Amansie Central, Amansie West, Adansi Asokwa, Adansi South, Asante Akim South Municipality, Bosome Freho, and Ahafo Ano South East.

    A Hohoe District Court in the Volta Region, presided over by Joseph Yennuban Kunsong, has committed Theresa Dogbe to stand trial at Ho High Court on February 18, 2025.

    Ms  Dogbe's committal followed a presentation by  Anthony Ghattie of the Office of State Attorney in Ho. 

    Giving the facts of the case, Mr Ghattie told the court that Theresa Dogbe’s case was an indictment that needed a High Court to hear the matter.
