    They include stationing two plainclothes personnel at the premises of media organisations across the country, sharing itinerary of media personnel deployed for the elections with commanders and the establishment of a National Security Taskforce Press Briefing Centre to share information "with the speed of light".

  • Cape Coast to Kumasi highway traffic congestion cleared after 24 block following truck accident

    Hundreds of commuters were stranded on the Cape Coast to Kumasi highway for several hours following a truck accident last Sunday.

    It was a heavy-duty truck carrying an ECG power engine, which was traveling towards Kumasi from Cape Coast that fell on a truck and a private car, severely injuring the driver of the truck which was carrying charcoal.

    The road was blocked immediately after the accident and commuters spent between five to six hours before crossing.

    Our Central Regional correspondent, Shirley Asiedu-Addo reported that the accident happened at the Assin Darmang Ngresi section of the Cape Coast-Kumasi road.

  • EC destroys Ahafo and Volta defective ballot papers with serial number issues

    The Electoral Commission (EC) on Thursday afternoon (Nov 21, 2024) destroyed defective ballot papers printed for the Ahafo and Volta regions for the December 7 presidential and parliamentary elections. There were serial number issues with the ballot papers at the press house and so the EC took a decision to destroy all ballot papers meant for the Ahafo and Brong Ahafo regions and print new ones.

    The ballot papers were burnt at the Adipa Waste Management Centre, near Nsawam in the Eastern Region.

  • Walewale: Police confiscate 37 bags of cocoa beans suspected of being smuggled outside of Ghana

    Thirty-seven bags of cocoa beans found in a private residence at Walewale in the North East Region, and suspected to be meant for onward transportation to neighbouring countries have been confiscated by the police.

    It was based on an intelligence-led operation by the West Mamprusi Police Command that uncovered the 37 bags of cocoa beans in the private residence in Walewale.

    The bags of cocoa beans are believed to have been transported from southern Ghana to the north on a transit outside of Ghana as part of a syndicate that smuggles cocoa beans outside of Ghana to neighbouring countries.

    The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has announced the dissolution of the Black Stars Management Committee following the team's failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) to be held in Morocco.

    The decision was made during the Executive Council (ExCo) meeting on Wednesday, November 20, 2024, as the association seeks to address the aftermath of Ghana’s disappointing campaign.

  • Four Ghanaian soldiers injured in rocket attack in Lebanon

    Four Ghanaian soldiers on peacekeeping duty in Lebanon sustained injuries as a rocket, "fired most likely by non-State actors within Lebanon" – hit their base “UNP 5-42” in the east of the village of Ramyah in Lebanon on Tuesday.

    The UN peacekeeping agency in southern Lebanon said the four peacekeepers were injured when the rocket hit their base, one of three separate incidents in which its troops and bases came under fire on Tuesday [Nov 19].

    The four Ghanaian soldiers were injured, with three requiring hospital treatment, after the rocket struck the base near the border with Israel, the UN Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) said. The severity of their injuries is unknown.

    In the Tuesday, November 12 issue of the Daily Graphic, the Chairperson of the National Commission on Civic Education (NCCE), Kathleen Addy, urged voters to vote for competence rather than other considerations in the upcoming December 7 general election. 

    For her, considerations of money, religion or even ethnicity should not come into play when voting, adding that the duty of voting was to shape governance and hold leaders accountable.
