Kudos, PURC!

I doff off my hat to the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) for resolving water challenges faced by Abeka residents.

In March 2023, we began to face intermittent water supply in the area, and for months, water stopped flowing through the taps altogether.

The seriousness of the water crisis motivated me to publish a letter in the Monday, December 18, 2023, issue of the Daily Graphic, outlining the difficulties faced by residents in obtaining water for household use and other needs. However, the GWCL failed to address the concern.

I then petitioned the GWCL Managing Director, who did not respond. However, the PURC invited me to a settlement meeting with GWCL officials.

Before then, their personnel had already been dispatched to the area to assess the situation.

Madam Gifty Bruce-Nelson and her facilitators at PURC demonstrated pragmatism by investigating customer complaints on the field and providing first-hand information on cases brought before the commission for settlement.

In addition, the reception with which they handled the matter was friendly, warm and professional.

This is commendable!

The negotiated meeting left me feeling optimistic about the problem's resolution, fuelled by the effective communication channels maintained between the PURC team and me.

The PURC's friendly customer complaint resolution model could significantly improve public perception of government work, ultimately benefiting society and the country as a whole.

I recommend that customers channel their grievances with utility service providers to the PURC for an amicable settlement.

I would like to thank Madam Gifty Bruce-Nelson and her team for their patience and exceptional professionalism during the resolution of the water crisis in my neighbourhood.
