Victoria: Only positive roles for me

Many upcoming actresses often resort to taking any kind of roles in order to break into the movie industry but rising actress, Victoria Lebene Mekpah, is going on a different route.

She has decided to accept only scripts and movie roles which will have a positive impact on society.

Victoria told Showbiz in an interview that her focus is to try and make a difference in society through television and film. " I prefer to work on projects that have story lines geared at improving the lives of people who watch the movies I feature in.

“There are very important life-changing stories that have to be told and it is important that we mirror these in our work,” she said.

Victoria, who was one of Ghana’s representatives at the 2014 Next Movie Star reality show in Nigeria stressed that she was not simply choosing this course because she is an up and coming actress looking for roles.

"This is a trend I intend to follow for the rest of my career not just because I am at the early stages of my career. There is no way I will accept a role in a movie that has no life lesson or has nothing to teach society,” she added.

She has starred in projects such as The Ultimate Story, Trapped in a Cage, The Storm among others.

She told Showbiz that she intends to champion a social cause by educating Ghanaians on the dangers of skin bleaching explaining that “It’s sad how some Ghanaians resort to skin bleaching these days.

“The worst of it is the desperation to become so light that they will use any product on the market without checking out the real ingredients in the products.

“All skin types are beautiful and we should love and learn to embrace ours. If you want to make your skin glow and look appealing, there are healthier ways of getting it done like consulting an aesthetician or dermatologist before applying any cream to the skin,” she added.

Victoria, who holds a Human Resource Management Degree from Zenith University, said she developed the passion for acting during her time in school and hopes to take her career to the world stage.
