Ras Caleb launches album and tour

Having been into music for about 34 years but without any recording to his name, singer/songwriter Ras Caleb Appiah-Levi was over the moon when his debut Have Faith album was launched alongside the unveiling of his Ghana Is Calling National Peace Tour 2016 at the Coconut Grove Hotel in Accra.

Sporting a purple robe with a matching woollen cap,  an obviously excited Ras Caleb performed three items out of the Zapp Mallet-produced five-track album and showed guests  a video of one of the songs.

“This album is simply long, long overdue. I have known Ras Caleb as a performing artiste for many years and I’m glad his dream to record this album has come to fruition today,”  Mrs Elizabeth Ofosu-Agyare, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, said before declaring the album officially launched.

Musicians featured on the album include Pat Appiah-Kubi (saxophone), Long John (trumpet), Eli Amewode (trombone) and Nana Ama Dadzie and Blakka Route (vocals).

Ras Caleb revealed that his national peace tour would be from June 4 to October 15 and some of his colleagues have promised to support him on the nationwide project.

“When the history of the 2016 election is written, it will be said that musicians also played a part to ensure peace,” Ras Caleb stated.

The Executive Producer of the album is Dr Alexis Appiah, a neurosurgeon at the 37 Military Hospitals and a nephew of Ras Caleb.

He urged experienced musicians in the country to search for, mentor and produce the music of talented artistes “who have passion in their belly and dreams in their heart.”

Ras Caleb was a member of Ivorian reggae star Alpha Blondy and his Solar System band. Currently, he is the Director of Reggae Music for the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA).

All guests at the launch event walked away with free copies of the Have Faith album.
