EDITOR'S LENS: Family, Happy New Year!

Welcome back from the festive season. 2025 came with a new government and the swearing-in of President John Dramani Mahama.

With 2025 already kicking off on a pleasant note, the Team at Graphic Showbiz wishes to express its deepest gratitude to our loyal readers, whose support and engagement have been the driving force behind our growth and expansion, particularly in the digital realm.

We are thrilled to embark on this new chapter alongside our readers, and we remain steadfast in our commitment to amplify the diverse stories of Ghana's vibrant creative industry.

Our commitment to providing a platform for marginalised units of the creative sector such as poetry and photography as well as shedding light on pressing issues and championing the arts and entertainment sector remains unshakeable in 2025.

While Ghana's creative industry may not have reached the pinnacle of global success, it is unfair to dismiss the notable achievements of Ghanaian creatives on the international stage.

Our musicians, for instance, have been tirelessly working to make a mark, with notable ones such as King Promise, Stonebwoy and Black Sherif successfully headlining shows in European countries and clinching prestigious awards last year.

Not long ago, Dancehall artiste, Shatta Wale, was part of a long list of prominent musicians who performed at Jamaican artiste, Vybz Kartel’s Freedom Concert in Jamaica.

Videos from the concert showed how Shatta Wale promoted our dear country with the waving of the Ghana flag during his performance. That was a major tourism boost for the country.

At Graphic Showbiz, we recognise that such accomplishments should be commonplace across all sectors of the creative industry.

However, this can only become a reality if we collectively put our minds to it, foster collaboration and provide the necessary support to propel our creatives to even greater heights.

Yes, fanaticism among followers of Ghanaian musicians is ideal and not peculiar to Ghana. However, we should be careful not to allow blind loyalty to some favourite artistes to cloud our sense of judgement to support other musicians who are flying the flag of Ghana high on the global stage.

It is always a collective win and we must all strive to make Ghana first.

Once again, Happy New Year. May our culture and creative industry continue to be great and grow stronger.
