Alliance Francaise hosts Gilberte’s World
Gilberte’s World, a film by the award- winning Ghanaian filmmaker, David Asare Masterwille, will be screened on Thursday, November 17 at the Alliance Française in Accra.
Shot in the Mauritian capital of Port Louis, the documentary explores the dynamic life of Gilberte Marimootoo-Natchoo, a Mauritian painter as she battles with challenges emanating from family, work and life in general.
It chronicles a tumultuous period in the life of the painter as she struggles with severe mental breakdown while hosting Masterwille, who dons his filmmaker hat and records the impact of a troubled mind which increasingly becomes suicidal. Master wille, who is the founder and CEO of TransSahara Pictures, is also a prolific scriptwriter with about 10 years of film making experience behind him.
He was trained at the Vancouver Film School and the Institute of Art, Design and Technology (IADT) in Toronto and also studied Creative Writing at Camosun College in Victoria, all in Canada.A member of the Vancouver (Canada) based Praxis Centre for Screenwriters, he has produced and directed a number of films including ‘Ananke’, ‘Y’ello Café’, ‘The Most Beautiful Hour’, ‘Nzulezu’ and ‘Gold Is Here.’
