While admitting that it owed some of its ‘susu’ customers in Swedru, it said the picture being painted out there was far from the truth.

A statement issued solicitors of the company, Aduaprokye Chambers explained that the company stopped the susu services somewhere in 2013 and the customers were dully notified.

It said since the change of operations, Jorbies has refunded GhȻ498, 928.63 to a total of 2349 customers, adding that the list of customers left for Jorbies to pay “is less than 80 customers who did ‘Susu’ in 2013.”

The statement signed by Mr Reginald Niibi Ayi-Bonte said, “the total amount regarding this group of customers is a ‘paltry’ GhȻ25, 000.00 or less.”

This, he said was far less than the GhȻ300,000 being speculated in some sections of the media. Instead, the statement said the amount was what some customers of the financial institution owed it in loans which were yet to be recovered as a result of the closure of its office in Swedru, something that was occasioned by the unilateral decision of the landlord to lock up its office and move its properties to unknown location.

It said the company which has its headquarters in Accra, was operating from a rented premises in Swedru which was renovated at a great cost to the company.

It said the cost of renovation was captured as part of the terms of the tenancy agreement.

“Contrary to the subsisting terms of the agreement our Client’s Landlord unilaterally packed the office equipment computers, E.C.G. vending machines, safe, desk, counting machines, air conditioners, chairs and most importantly Loan files, to an unknown place, even though our rent has not expired.

“Efforts to locate the items proved futile as he does not heed to our calls for a meeting to find out the cause of his action and to collect our items. This obviously led to loss of contact with our large clientele base that have deposits with us but could not have access to the locked premises of the Company.

Consequently, the company has started a court process at the Swedru High Court against the landlord for breach of contract, trespass and damages.

The company thus assured its prospective clients and partners that “we shall not relent on our quest to maintain the highest integrity which we have built over the years. The vision of Jorbies, to maintain the utmost fidelity, remains unwavering.”
