The finals of the U-20 men’s football match between Ghana and Uganda at the Accra Sports Stadium drew an impressive crowd, marking a significant return to large-scale public gatherings. With such gatherings often comes the challenge of waste management and disposal.

However, Zoomlion's strategic measures ensured that waste generated by the enthusiastic spectators did not become a problem. Madam Jamillah Ghartey, Senior Monitoring and Service Quality Officer for the sanitation at the Accra Sports Stadium, highlighted the company's meticulous approach. They deployed over 100 personnel working in shifts to ensure continuous waste collection and cleaning.

Madam Ghartey explained that before each sporting activity, the morning shift personnel would sweep the stands, collect any waste left overnight, and clean the washrooms. During the games, they maintained regular patrols to collect plastic waste and clean washrooms every 5 to 10 minutes, ensuring a clean environment for all visitors.

Zoomlion provided clearly labeled bins for general waste and plastic waste, and dedicated trucks for waste collection and transportation. The cooperation of the patrons was crucial in facilitating Zoomlion's operations, reflecting a collective effort towards sanitation management.

Pleased with Zoomlion's performance, patrons called for an extension of their contract to maintain the cleanliness of the venues regularly. Nii Armah, a patron, commended Zoomlion for providing world-class sanitation services at the Games.

Before the Games began, Zoomlion conducted special training for its sanitation officers at the Army Peace Operations Training School (APOTS) at Bundase Training Camp. The training focused on essential skills like management, cleaning techniques, crowd control, and teamwork, ensuring a high standard of sanitation services at the stadiums and sports facilities.

The 13th African Games, hosted in Ghana from March 8 to March 23, 2024, were decentralized across three cities: Accra, Kumasi, and Cape Coast. Zoomlion's exemplary sanitation efforts contributed significantly to the overall success of the event.
