Use lottery proceeds to develop sports – Activa MD
The Managing Director of Activa International Insurance Company Limited, Mr Stephen Kyerematen, has suggested to the government to seriously consider using proceeds from the operations of the National Lotteries to fund the administration and development of sports in Ghana.
Mr Kyerematen made the suggestion in his speech at the 39th MTN/SWAG Awards Nite held at the Banquet Hall, State House, last Saturday.
The Activa boss said the fundamental challenges facing the development of sports in Ghana could generally be categorised into three aspects; Financing of sports, Sports administration and overall general management of sports in Ghana.
“With respect to sports administration, while paying homage to Ghana’s past and current administrators for their sterling performances, efforts must be made to provide training and exposure for up-and-coming administrators.
In this regard, Mr Kyerematen said, Activa Insurance was ready to assist SWAG to develop a blueprint for sports in Ghana in the form of a ‘Balanced Scorecard for Ghana Sports’ which will be a framework for defining an appropriate vision for sports in Ghana.
“Although, it is agreed that the prime responsibility for the management, administration and development of sports belongs to government, in the spirit of government’s own policy of PPP – Public, Private Partnership – I believe it will be in order for Activa to assist SWAG and other sports agencies and departments to develop the suggested scorecard or blueprint,” the Activa boss said.
He congratulated SWAG for consistently ensuring that the SWAG Awards Nite wass held ever since its inception some 39 years ago and assured the organizers of his company’s continuous support.
It must be recalled that Activa International Insurance Company Limited supported this year’s SWAG Awards with GH¢30,000.
