Muntari pleased with calls for Black Stars return but...

Accra Hearts of Oak midfielder Sulley Muntari says he is pleased with calls for his return to the Black Stars although he is currently focused on helping his club finish the Ghana Premier League season strongly.

Muntari, 37, has rolled back the years with some assured performances in midfield for Hearts since joining the club for the second round of the Ghana Premier League seaon.

The former Inter Milan man grabbed his first assist two weeks ago against Legon Cities and scored his first goal for Hearts as they defeated WAFA 2-1 at the Accra Sports Stadium yesterday.

This has led to calls on social media for his return to the Black Stars for Ghana's crucial FIFA World Cup playoff against Nigeria.

However, the player who last played for Ghana at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil said time will tell whether he would be handed a recall to the team over seven years after he was suspended indefinitely for an "unprovoked physical attack" on management member Moses Armah.

"Pleased (about calls for my recall) but I am focused on Hearts of Oak now. I came in and got the chance to play for Hearts of Oak, a big team here. I am home and it's just joy to be here," Muntari said in an interview after converting a spot-kick against WAFA.

Muntari has not played for the Black Stars since 2014 despite apologising in 2016 "for any embarrassment" that his actions brought to the Black Stars Team, the Ghana Football Association and Ghana.
