2024 WAFCON Qualifiers: Black Queens to run riot against Namibia today
Black Queens Coach, Nora Hauptle, is fine-tuning the team's preparation for their 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) qualifier against Namibia today, December 1, 2023, at the Accra Sports Stadium.
The Swiss gaffer has made a significant transformation for the Black Queens since taking over early this year and has led them to an unbeaten record in competitive and friendly encounters.
Significantly, the Nations Cup qualifiers have gone according to script after the team eased past Rwanda 12-0 on aggregate in September and are expected to be ruthless against the Southern Africans in Accra.
Coach Hauptle has assembled the best home-based and foreign legion for the first-leg encounter with Sherifatu Sumaila of the Israeli side, Hapoel Peta Tikva and Jaqueline Owusu of Real Sociedad making a return to the team to join the likes of Evelyn Badu, Alice Kusi, Doris Boaduwaa, Stella Nyamekye, Princella Adubea, Azumah Bugre, Jennifer Cudjoe and other regulars.
Comfort Yeboah, who showed an incredible performance for Ampem Darkoa Ladies during the CAF Women’s Champions League in Cote d’Ivoire, has also caught the eye of the Black Queens trainer for this tie.
The Ghanaians will head into the game very confidently after beating their Beninese counterparts 5-0 on aggregate in their 2024 Paris Olympic Games qualifiers three weeks ago.
Today’s game offers another chance for the Black Queens to take an important step towards qualifying for Africa's premier competition in Morocco after missing the last competition.
Fans will expect another winning display on the back of their impressive form this year, which has earned them a nomination for the CAF National Team of the Year award.
