Adams earns $10,000 for Aduana Stars

Goalkeeper  Stephen Adams may not have had the chance to man the posts for Ghana at the World Cup in Brazil but his inclusion in the team’s 23-man squad has earned his club, Aduana Stars close to $10,000.

The amount is Adams’ share of the $70million football’s world governing body, FIFA, has made available to the clubs of the 736 players who made it to the  World Cup. Each of the 32 teams was required to select 23 players for the tournament.

The goalkeeper, who manned the post for Ghana during the 2014 Championship of African Nations (CHAN),  is the only local player who made it in the final squad. Interestingly into 2010, two local players, incidentally, goalkeepers Daniel Adjei and Stephen Ahorlu  earned the similar amounts for their clubs, Liberty Professionals and Kpando Hearts of Lions respectively.

As the flagship of its tournaments, the World Cup is the only FIFA tournament where players  receive appearance fees, while their clubs are also compensated for their services.

Having exited at the group stage, Ghana will earn $9.5million — $1.5million as qualifying and preparation fees  and $8mllion for playing at the group stages.

This is a drastic decrease in the team’s earnings at the World Cup in 2010, where they exited at the quarter-finals with $32million.

Apart from the participation fees, the runners-up and champions prizes, there were no significant increment in this year’s tournament cash prizes which are as follows:
