Bukom Banku, Powers on ‘Night of Fury’ bill

Five months after they thrilled fans in a non-title fight in Accra, Braimah Kamoko, alias Bukom Banku, and Michael Ayittey Powers will both mount the ring on Friday at the Accra Sports Stadium not to fight but rather to entertain the fans with a musical show on a night Tanzanian Allan Kamote faces hard-hitting Ghanaian boxer George Ashie for the WBO Africa Lightweight Championship.

At a press briefing last Monday to introduce boxers on the main bout, the fight promoters announced they had reached a deeal with the two crowd-pulling Ghanaian boxers to put up a musical performance, with Kamoko singing while his ring foe, Powers, dances as part of the entertainment package for fans.

Kamoko, however, is preparing to return to action inthree months’ time when he fights Bastie Samir on March 6, 2015, quashing earlier rumours that he had withdrawn from the bout because of a bust-up with bout promoter, Mcdon Atsitsogbe of Mcdon Promotions.

The main bout on Friday’s ‘Fist of Fury’ between Kamote and Ashie promises to be more than just another slugfest among two fighters.

Both boxers appeared calm and relaxed at last Monday’s press conference, with each promising to finish off his opponent in the ring.

“I know this is a very good opportunity for me to get a chance at a world title shot and I will do everything and anything within my power to make the home crowd very happy and something to cheer about,” Ashie told a teeming crowd of supporters who escorted him to the Media Centre of the Accra stadium.

Kamote, for his part, spoke through his trainer, Ibrahim Abdul Aziz-Mash, and vowed to cause a big shock on Friday night.

“It is a difficult terrain, especially looking at the way he has a huge home support. But I’m here to cause an upset and shock everyone,” the Tanzanian noted.

The undercards of the bill include a 12-round WBF Africa Light-heavyweight Championship fight between Maxwell "Black Wolf" Amponsah and Ebenezer "Upper Cut" Tetteh, while Pride "Octopus" Dzanie fights Michael Barnor for the National and West Africa Boxing Union (WABU) bantamweight titles.

Former national champion, Patrick Allotey, faces off with Isaac Aryee in a 10-round welterweight bout.
