THE Chief Executive Officer of Kri8 Concept, a record label and artiste management company, Stephen Forson, has urged Ghanaians to celebrate music and not popularity.

According to him Ghanaians are gradually losing focus, celebrating popularity and taking the focus off the great music artistes are churning out.

“You cannot tell me Patapaa is better than Wiyaala musically but Patapaa will easily get gigs to play in Ghana than Wiyaala and that is simply because we don’t appreciate good music.

“There are a great number of talented up and coming artistes doing fantastic music than even the A-list artistes but no one pays attention to them because they are not popular,” he told Graphic Showbiz on Tuesday, January 28.

Currently managing three artistes; Posta Boy, Eva Maria and Church Boy, Mr Forson said the young musicians are not motivated to do quality music because the ‘noisy’ songs are what people rather appreciate.

“Now anyone at all goes to the studio and does any ‘nonsense’ song and we applaud such an artiste without paying attention to the content,” he said.

Mr Forson said he felt sad when CNN put up a list of top 10 African artistes and no musician in Ghana was among it.

“I felt sad and disappointed Ghana was missing in the CNN list but upon second thought I realised we have not projected our music enough. Wizkid or Mr. Eazi is not better than Wiyaala or Amandzeba musically but because our artistes are not popular they missing out.

“I am sure if CNN had done a thorough search musically on Ghanaian music without making it about popularity, we would have had at least two artistes on the list,” he stated.
