Belac 360: Making Gospel music hip

When American Gospel music star, Kirk Franklin released his hit track Stomp in 1997, the new style which blended Christian messages with secular sounds wasn’t familiar.

Although older folks did not quite accept it, the youth at whom it had been targeted embraced it and its success introduced another dimension to Gospel music. Over the years, that trend has gained roots and in Ghana, the likes of Preachers and Kingzkid have made it quite popular.

New entrant, Belac 360, hopes to take it to another level with songs like Boss, Tonight, Winners Anthem and Yaa Sormor. In an interview with Showbiz the young Minister said rap Gospel music is not ‘worldly’ as many perceive it to be.

“As we say, culture is dynamic and so it is with the taste of consumers in music. The new generation love what is trendy and they can relate to. I’m happy the genre is gradually being accepted in our part of the world.

“The youth identify with rap music so if we can give them a version of what they like in church, it will be much easier to teach and show them the godly way of life,” he said.

Signed to Replay Planet, Belac 360, born Caleb Nartey, describes himself as a Christian Hip hop artiste, songwriter and record producer with a pledge to impact his generation.

He  has had the chance to minister on many platforms including Action Chapel’s Youth of Valour, Preachers and Buddies Concert at the World Trade Centre and Footprint Praise Party at the Independence Square.

In 2016, Belac 360 launched the annual 360 Tour which involves holding leadership seminars for students in Senior High Schools. So far, he has visited over 20 schools including Tema Senior High School, Akosombo International School, Ghana Christian International High School, Akwamuman SHS and Somanya SecTech.
