Okaikoi South MP aspirants hold debate

The National Democratic Congress has accused the Member of Parliament for the Okaikoi South Constituency, Mr Ahmed Arthur, of giving them inaccurate information that he has lobbied for and funded more development projects in the constituency with his pocket money.

The party also accused him of misusing his share of the MPs Common Fund.

Debate

This came up during a debate organised by an Accra-based radio station – Onua FM – over the weekend in Accra to offer the four parliamentary aspirants in the constituency the platform to dialogue with their constituents.

However,  Mr Arthur described the accusations from the camp of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) as unfounded and rather accused the NDC of having no message for the constituency.

He enumerated a number of development activities he had undertaken which he said included over 100 footballs, jerseys and 150 streetlights provided for the constituency, an ambulance and a washing machine to the Kaneshie Polyclinic, renovation of the road behind the Kaneshie Police Station. He also mentioned lobbying for ASIP projects, as well as organising free classes for over 3000 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) candidates.

He therefore asked the electorate to look at the numerous projects provided and retain him in power.

When he took his turn, the NDC parliamentary candidate, Mr Alexander Ackuaku, said when voted for in the December 7 election he would roll out a reading competition initiative among all the basic schools in the constituency.

This, according to him, was informed by his interactions with teachers and Circuit Supervisors in the  constituency.

He touted the achievements of President John Mahama in the constituency including two well-equipped millennium schools and roads and asked the constituents to renew his mandate.

Project

For her part, the parliamentary aspirant of the Progressive People’s Party (PPP), Madam Harriet Anita Abaidoo,  urged the electorate to reject both the NDC and the NPP and vote massively for her – as it was only a neutral person that could bring the development they needed.

The fourth aspirant, Madam Efua Asante of the Convention People’s Party (CPP) did not show up because of ill health.
