NDC Obuasi East, West constituencies launch campaign

The government has instituted plans to revive the Anglogold Obuasi mine to create jobs for the people, the Vice-President, Mr Kwesi Amissah-Arthur, has stated.

He assured the people in the Obuasi Municipality that the revival of the mine was crucial to the agenda of the government to create jobs hence the practical measures put in place to rejuvenate the mine.

Candidates

The Vice-President made this known when he addressed scores of supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) at a joint campaign launch of the party’s parliamentary candidates for Obuasi East and West constituencies in the Ashanti Region last Saturday.

The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Obuasi, Mr Ofori Agyemang Boadi,  and the Ashanti Regional Minister,  Mr John Alexander Ackon,  are the NDC parliamentary candidates for Obuasi East and West respectively.

“We will make the Obuasi mine attractive so that it can create jobs for the people,” Mr Amissah-Arthur said to ecstatic supporters of the party who came out in their numbers to witness the launch.

Imploring the people to vote for President Mahama and the party’s parliamentary candidates to ensure the party retains power, the Vice-President said President Mahama over the years had demonstrated his leadership capabilities to deliver on his mandate as President.

While introducing the candidates to the people, Mr Amissah-Arthur reiterated his call to supporters of the NDC to embark on a door-to-door campaign and spread the party’s message of hope and transformation to undecided voters.

Comparison

Taking his turn to address the people, the former Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr Samuel Sarpong, said President Mahama was better placed among the other presidential candidates to lead the country.

“President Mahama has a proven track record and experience both as President and Vice-President of Ghana and comparing President Mahama with Nana Akufo-Addo is like comparing apples and oranges,” he said.

Dr Sarpong, who is also the NDC parliamentary candidate for the Nhyiaeso Constituency, expressed the hope that the track record of the Mahama-led administration in delivering on most of its promises would reflect positively on the outcome of the December election.

“We have done so much in the last four years and this will win Mahama the seat again,” he added

For his part, Mr Ackon recounted the achievements of the government in Obuasi and its environs, saying the provision of infrastructure in terms of schools, water among other facilities, had been impressive.

He told the enthusiastic crowd that the Obuasi-Kumasi road had been awarded on contract and work was expected soon.
