My claims were based on ‘common sense’ — Arthur Kennedy

A member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Kobina Arthur Kennedy, has said although he has no evidence to back his claims that Nana Akufo-Addo motivated the clashes at the party’s headquarters last Tuesday, he is convinced by ‘common sense’ that the presidential hopeful is to blame.

He has accused the two-time NPP presidential candidate of instigating some aggrieved youth to attack the party’s chairman, Paul Afoko, and the General Secretary, Kwabena Agyepong, during a press briefing last Tuesday.

The machete-wielding youth were demanding the removal of Agyepong for supposedly taking unilateral decisions contrary to the laid-down procedures of the NPP.

The office of Nana Akufo-Addo, in a rebuttal, said Dr Arthur Kennedy’s allegations were born out of “pure malice…in pursuit of his hate campaign against Nana Akufo-Addo.”

In an interview on Eyewitness News to defend his allegations, Dr Arthur Kennedy, a one-time presidential candidate hopeful, said the recent events in the NPP pointed to the fact that “either Nana Addo or people acting on his behalf are the ones behind all these disturbances in the NPP.”

He further alleged that Nana Akufo-Addo was doing everything in his power to remove the new executive from office because he had no control over them.

“Obviously, he doesn’t like the idea that there are new executives he cannot control,” he asserted.

Dr Arthur Kennedy, however, admitted in the interview that he had no evidence but with the application of “common sense” to happenings in the party, one can easily deduce the cause of the problems.

According to him, Nana Akufo-Addo is the only one who stands to benefit if the chairman and his executives are unable to effectively execute their duties. He stated, “Look at who stands to benefit, look at what people have said in the past.”

He mentioned that if the party was able to identify the aggrieved youth who stormed the NPP’s headquarters, it would be able to trace them to Nana Addo.
