Muslim groups urged to use outfits as tools for development

An aide to the President, Alhaji Babalami Abu-Sadat, has urged Muslim organisations to use their outfits as tools for the development of their respective communities.

He said the development would create the opportunity for the youth and discourage them from engaging in unproductive activities.

Alhaji Abu-Sadat, who is a former Member of Parliament for Awutu-Senya in the Central Region, made the call last Tuesday, after a familiarisation tour of the headquarters of the Ghana Muslim Mission at Odorgono in Accra.

The visit to the mission's headquarters was at the instance of President Mahama.

Alhaji  Abu-Sadat lauded the GMM for its immense contribution to the socio-economic development of the country.

For instance, he said, the mission currently has 110 basic schools, while it had also started work on the construction of an Islamic university in Kumasi.

Besides, Alhaji  Abu-Sadat told the Daily Graphic that the GMM had planned to establish a senior high school and two basic schools in each of the 10 regions the country.

He assured the members of the mission of President Mahama's readiness to support in their work.

He urged other Muslim organisations to emulate the example of the GMM to improve the image of Islam in Ghana and beyond.

The presidential aide urged Muslims to take advantage of the educational opportunities provided by the mission to educate their children.

''It is inexcusable for parents and guardians to put the Muslim child at a disadvantage in their attempt to aspire to greater heights,'' he said.

Alhaji  Abu-Sadat asked Muslims to use the opportunity of the Ramadan fast to pray for peace and progress in the country.

The GMM was established in 1957, to help bring Muslims together to propagate Islam and support social activities, including the provision of educational infrastructure and social amenities.
