Keta assembly presents motorbikes for school supervision
The Keta Municipal Assembly has presented 10 motorbikes to the municipal education directorate for distribution to circuit supervisors for effective supervision of schools for better performance in education.
The motorbikes, estimated at Gh¢25,000, were procured from the assembly’s internally generated funds (IGF).
The presentation followed a recommendation by stakeholders in education to the assembly for drastic measures to enhance school supervision in order to reverse the falling standard of education in the municipality.
Handing over the motorbikes to the beneficiaries, the Keta Municipal Chief Executive, Mr Sylvester Tornyeavah, said one of the most pressing issues confronting the assembly was the alarming decline in the standard of education, and added that the abysmal performance of the children at various levels of education was a concern for all.
He said in order to halt the decline in pupils’ performance, the assembly had put in place various interventions to help improve the quality of education within the municipality.
Mr Tornyeavah mentioned the assembly’s resolution to levy each student in the senior high school for the establishment of the Anlo Education Trust Fund, and a sponsorship package for 200 teacher trainees over a period of 10 years as some of the measures initiated to address problems in the education sector.
He appealed to the Members of Parliament (MPs) for Anlo and Keta to support the assembly and the education directorate in order to sustain effective supervision of the schools.
The MP for Keta, Mr Richard Quashigah, bemoaned the falling standard of education in the municipality and pledged support for the assembly’s efforts to bring education standards back to its former glory.
The Presiding Member of the assembly, Mr Richard Kwami Sefe, called for support to complete the office block for the Ghana Education Service (GES), which started several years ago.
The Keta Municipal Director of GES, Mr Edmund Gbetodeme, was grateful to the assembly for the support and pledged to ensure that the facility was used to increase frequency of visits to the schools.
