John Boadu takes over as NPP Gen Sec after Agyepong's suspension

The New Patriotic Party has appointed National Organiser, Mr John Buadu as acting General Secretary to take over from Mr Kwabena Agyepong who was Thursday suspended indefinitely by the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the party.

Mr Agyepong was suspended together with Second Vice Chairman, Mr Sammy Crabbe after the National Executive Committee at a meeting on Thursday upheld recommendations by the Disciplinary Committee.

The Party’s Communication Director, Nana Akomea explained that at the end of deliberations, the NEC unanimously decided that the two should be suspended indefinitely.

Graphic Online gathered that the Disciplinary Committee, chaired by Most Rev. Dr Samuel Asante Antwi recommended a 15-month suspension for the two but the NEC after its deliberations decided that the suspension should be indefinite.

With regards to Mr Agyepong, Nana Akomea explained that the gravemen of the petition against him included violation of Article 3(D) of the NPP constitution which enjoins members to publicly uphold decisions of the party.

“He [Agyepong] did this through various acts including his disregard for NEC decision on 23rd October, 2015 suspending Mr Paul Afoko.”

The petitioners in the case of Mr Agyepong, were Messrs. Christopher Arthur, Fred Addai, Amadu Kalim, Iddrisu Musa, Owusu Ansah and K.T Hammond.

He was said to have made various public statements that cast the NPP in bad light and engaged in unilateral actions and activities without consultation of, or authorization by the NEC.

Some of those such acts were listed as writing to the Electoral Commission designating only himself and suspended Chairman Afoko as the only authorized signatories, granting waivers to parliamentary aspirants, non-reference of legal matters to the proper legal Committee of the Party, interference with Constituency primaries against National Appeal Committee decisions and also, Court decisions, misrepresentation/misleading of NEC on status of some constituency primaries and in conjunction with suspended Chairman Afoko and Sammy Crabbe, launched Party cards without authorizations from NEC.

Sammy Crabbe

According to Nana Akomea the meeting also considered the report of the Disciplinary Committee on the petition received against Mr Sammy Crabbe, the Second National Vice Chairman and unanimously upheld the recommendation of the Disciplinary Committee to suspend Mr Crabbe indefinitely from his position.

The petitioners against Mr Crabbe were Mr Boye Laryea and Madam Gladys Mann-Dede, both former Greater Accra Regional executives.

The gravamen of the petition against Mr Crabbe involved his violation of article 3 (D) on the duties of a member.

He was said to have on several occasions publicly gone against the NEC decision on the 23rd October, 2015 suspending Mr. Paul Afoko.

He was said to have also in conjunction with Mr. Afoko and Kwabena Agyepong launched party membership cards and fundraising activities without authorization from NEC.

While Mr Agyepong appeared before the Disciplinary committee, Mr Crabbe boycotted it and questioned the powers to invite him.

Jubilation

According to Graphic Online’s reporter, Abdul Aziz, there was jubilation at the NPP headquarters by some party supporters who hailed the decision to indefinitely suspend the two.

Some party members popped champagne upon hearing about the suspensions.

One staunch NPP supporter, Hajia Fati was seen with a broom supposedly sweeping away the two men as well as party’s misfortune since the party elected new executives in 2012.
