Gomoa East Assembly witnesses massive devt
Since its creation on March 15, 2018, the Gomoa East District Assembly in the Central Region has seen development projects in the areas of education, health, water and sanitation, reshaping of roads, among other things, that have brought relief to the people.
Profile
The Gomoa East District was established by a Legislative Instrument (L.I. 2340, 2017), with Gomoa Potsin as its capital.
According to the 2010 Population and Housing Census, the estimated population of the district is 207,071. Males constitute 47.5 per cent while females represent 52.5 per cent of the population.
The mission of the district is to harness and deploy its resource potential to improve the living conditions of the people through equitable provision of the services within the context of good governance and local economic development.
Achievements
In an interview with the Daily Graphic on the achievements of the district, Mr Darko-Quarm said the assembly had completed the construction of three-unit classroom blocks at Potsin, Amoanda and Gomoa Tekyiam which were funded from the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF) and the District Development Facility (DDF).
Other completed projects are a three-unit classroom block at Potsin T.I. Ahmadiyya SHS and a six-unit classroom block with ancillary facilities at Anapansu.
He noted that the assembly in its quest to reduce congestion had constructed a girls dormitory which had been handed over and was currently in use at the Fettehman Senior High School at Gomoa Fetteh.
He stated that work was currently ongoing on the construction of three-unit classroom blocks with ancillary facilities at Gomoa Buduburam, Nkwantanan, Potsin, and Nyanyano Kakraba and a boys dormitory at Potsin T.I. Ahmadiyya SHS.
He added that the assembly, together with the immediate past Member of Parliament for the area, Mr Kojo Asemanyi, had presented many desks to selected basic and senior high schools to enhance teaching and learning.
Health
Touching on health, he said the assembly had completed the construction of CHPS compounds at Kweikrom, Dabanyin, Dampaase, as well as the renovation and conversion of an area council building into an office of the Ambulance Service.
He said with funding from the Coastal Development Authority (CODA), work was ongoing on the construction of CHPS compounds at Kobena Andoh and Buduburam which were at the gable levels.
He added that work was also ongoing on the construction of a CHPS compound with ancillary facilities at Gomoa Panfokrom and wheelchairs and hospital beds had been donated to the St Gregory Hospital to improve health care delivery.
Water and sanitation
He said potable water had been extended to some communities such as Akotsi, Kojo-Oku, Adewukwaa, Fetteh Kakraba, Ojobi, Anapansu, Nyanyano Kakraba, Buduburam and Dampase to increase water supply coverage in the district.
He stated that with funding from CODA work was currently ongoing on the construction of 10-seater biogas toilet facilities at Potsin T.I. Ahmadiyya SHS, Odumasi, Akotsi Junction, Fettehman SHS and Potsin Junction.
Others are the construction of two 20-seater biogas toilet facilities at Eduafokwa and Mampong as well as the construction of 90 Digni-loo toilet facilities at Kofi Ahor and Gomoa Tekyiam, respectively.
He stressed that in a bid to improve the security situation in the district, the assembly had ensured the extension of electricity in communities such as Akramang, Gomoa Fetteh, Akotsi, Ojobi, Nkwantanan and Kojo-Oku.
He added that to improve police visibility in the area, two car engines were donated to the Nyanyano Police and the Divisional Police Command to put some of their vehicles back on the road to enhance constant patrols.
Trade and Industry
Commenting on the one district, one factory initiative, Mr Darko-Quarm said the district had had its share of the factories with the construction of a number of companies across the district.
Roads
On roads construction, he mentioned the ongoing construction of Nyanyano, Buduatta and Potsin roads as well as the reshaping of Kofi Ahor, Fetteh Kakraba, Esiwukwa, Kojo-Oku, Buduburam, Dominase, Okereko, Dampaase and Nkwantanan roads, among others, to buttress his point.
He indicated further that culvets had been constructed at Fetteh Kakraba, Nkwantanan, Buduburam and Dominase to ease transportaion.
