The National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament (MP) for Lambussie in the Upper West Region, Professor Titus Kofi Beyuo, has donated essential medical supplies and consumables worth GH¢55,000 to the Lambussie Health Directorate to support efforts against the Cerebrospinal Meningitis (CSM) outbreak in the area.
The items, which include 8,000 face masks, 40 thermometers, 100 vials of ceftriaxone, 100 spinal needles, five litres of alcohol-based hand sanitiser, and 2,000 pieces of hand gloves, are intended to address critical gaps in resources and empower healthcare workers to manage and contain the outbreak more effectively.
Commendation
Handing over the items last Friday (February 21,2025), Prof. Beyuo commended frontline health workers for their tireless efforts in handling the outbreak of the CSM in the area.
“I commended the Lambussie Health Directorate and our frontline health workers for their tireless dedication and resilience. Despite the limitations they face, including shortages of spinal needles, lifesaving medications and personal protective equipment, they continue to serve with unwavering resolve,” the Lambussie lawmaker said.

“Let me be clear that supporting our health sector will remain a cornerstone of my work in Parliament, as I firmly believe that a healthy population is the foundation of progress,” he said, adding that “as your Member of Parliament, safeguarding the health of my constituents is not just a duty but a personal commitment”.
Safer practices
Prof. Beyuo, a former General Secretary of the Ghana Medical Association, urged his constituents to adopt safer practices, such as improving the handling of the deceased, avoiding overcrowded gatherings, and seeking immediate medical care at the first sign of symptoms.
“Let me reassure everyone that treatment and supplies are available at no cost, so there is no reason to delay seeking help,” he stated.
Support/Cases
The Lambussie District Director of Health Services, Bin-eranaa Jerdu Nuhu, who received the items on behalf of the health directorate, expressed his gratitude to the MP for the donation which he said met their most urgent needs.
He appealed to other individuals and organisations to lend their support in the fight against the disease.
So far, 11 suspected CSM cases have been reported in Lambussie district, with one death and one patient still undergoing treatment at the time of the donation.
