Ayisi Boateng calls for ceasefire in NPP

A founder member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Ashanti Region, Mr Ayisi Boateng, has called for ceasefire within the body politic of the party.

He has also called for a serious reflection on what happened  at the party’s headquarters last Tuesday, so that it does not recur.

It would be recalled  that a press conference by the Steering Committee of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to explain the rationale behind the recent appointments at the Communication Directorate turned chaotic when party security officers wielding machetes clashed with  armed  security details of the General Secretary, Mr Kwabena Agyepong, at the party’s headquarters.

It took the intervention of police reinforcement to bring the dangerous incident under control and bring activities at the headquarters back to normalcy.

But speaking in a telephone interview yesterday, Mr Boateng said presently, there should be no room for egocentrism and any parochial interest within the party. Rather, the focus ought to be the mass mobilisation and a membership drive towards winning the 2016 general election and nothing else.

He, therefore, appealed to the rank and file of the party to allow unity, peace, tranquillity and sanity to prevail  within the party.

According to Mr Boateng, the entire membership of the party should remove all suspicion and mistrust in whatever undertaking they are engaged in in the interest of the party.

In that respect, Mr Boateng called for the adoption of broad consultation and  consensus building in  the party’s efforts to create harmony and peace.

He said all and sundry within the  party must bury whatever differences might have existed and rather foster unity to enable the party to win back the hearts of the electorate by which the fortunes of winning the 2016 elections would be brightened.

He said it was not surprising to hear former President Kufuor wading into the impasse and calling for calmness in the party because what happened last Tuesday at the NPP headquarters when two security outfits engaged themselves in a scuffle had saddened both the young and old in the party.
