Ashanti Region NDC relocates to permanent office
After many years of moving from one rented apartment to another, the Ashanti Regional branch of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has relocated to a permanent office at Amakom in Kumasi as it prepares towards the 2016 general election.
Currently, only the first phase of the three-storey, made up of nine offices, is complete as the party speeds up to finish the 18-room building with a modern conference room to position the party to enhance its work in the region.
The Regional Organiser of the party, Alhaji Sannie Abdulai, told the Daily Graphic on Wednesday that the decision to move to the uncompleted structure followed an ejection in 2008 before the general election, which nearly jolted its chances of winning the election.
The shock ejection forced the party to move to a temporary facility at Adum Tarzan for two years after which it mobilised funds internally to begin the permanent structure in 2010, Alhaji Abdulai stated.
In another development, the party has begun training some 329 polling agents towards the upcoming limited voter registration by the Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana.
The EC has set June 20-29, 2014 to embark on a limited voter registration exercise for those who had attained 18 years and who did not get the chance to register at the last registration.
According to the NDC regional secretary, seven trainees each from the 47 constituencies in the region are being taken through the regime of the electoral processes. They will in turn re-train constituency members for future elections.
