Apostle Ayamba endorses National Economic Forum

The National Director of the United Christian Ministerial Association (UCMA), Apostle Samuel D. Ayamba, has endorsed the ongoing National Economic Forum, describing it as a big step towards addressing the current economic crisis in Ghana.

He has, therefore, called on religious leaders, especially those in the Christian community, to throw their weight behind the forum through intensive prayers, since “without prayers nothing meaningful can be achieved”.

Apostle Ayamba spoke to the Daily Graphic after a delegation from UCMA, led by its International Mission Director, Dr Pat Hayes, visited the Calvary Baptist Church at Kaneshie in Accra.

Apostle Ayamba said the current economic crisis experienced by Ghanaians called for more direct interventions from church leaders and “faith-based bodies”.

“We must understand that what this country is facing is not the making of one man or group but prophecy fulfilling itself because the Bible says in the end time difficult moments will come. We should not expect that things will be all rosy all the time because it would mean that God is a liar,” he said.

Background

As part of measures to address the current economic challenges faced by Ghana, the government has organised a National Economic Forum.

The four-day programme, which began on May 13 at Akosombo in the Eastern Region, is aimed at achieving a consensus on policies, strategies and measures to accelerate Ghana’s transition from a lower middle income nation to an upper middle income economy.

Role of clergies

Apostle Ayamba asserted that it was the duty of clergies in the country to support the development of the country’s economy through prayers and godly counsel to the government.

“I would like to see the church helping to solve the spiritual problems of the nation. We cannot solve all the problems but as we keep praying, God will help us address the challenges,” he said.

Clergies commended

Dr Hayes commended clergies in the country for their immense contribution and consistent support to the growth and development of Ghana.

He said although every nation in the world was facing certain challenges, clergies in Ghana had done extremely well in propagating the gospel of Christ and saving souls for God’s kingdom, adding; “I find among the men and women of God in Ghana wise pastors and Bible scholars”.
