Complement government’s effort to provide quality education - Asantehene tells stakeholders
The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has reiterated the need for all stakeholders in the country to complement government effort to provide quality education in the country.
This, according to him, would equip the citizenry, especially the youth with the needed skills to support the development of the nation and the world as a whole.
Otumfuo made the statement at the 10th anniversary and first Speech and Prize-giving Day of the Nana Konadu Saviour School at Bonwire in the Ejisu-Juaben Municipality of the Ashanti Region.
The occasion was also used to honour Nana Ama Konadu, the elder sister of the Asantehene, whom the school was named after.
Commendation
Otumfuo Osei Tutu commended Nana Ama Konadu for her selflessness and dedication to the cause of education.
He promised to ensure the development of the school and pledged GH¢50,000 towards the completion of the ongoing projects for the school.
The Asantehene also pledged to support the provision of basic needs of the school, adding that he would soon send a team to assess the needs of the school to enable him to determine the support he could offer.
Innovation
He commended the proprietors of the school for including kente weaving in the school’s curricular to equip the students for the job market and help them become self-reliant after school.
The Headmaster of the school, Mr Paul Agyekum, appealed for support in the procurement of computers and other logistics to promote teaching and learning.
Exemplary leadership
Speaking to the Daily Graphic after the function, the Bonwirehene, Nana Bobie Ansah II, lauded the Asantehene for his role and support towards the development of education in the country.
He explained that the Asantehene’s exemplary leadership was worth emulating by all, since it had impacted positively on the lives of many people in the country and beyond.
He also pledged to contribute in his small way towards the development of education, and called for unity among the people of Bonwire to promote peace which he said was crucial to national development.
The Ashanti Regional Police Commander, DCOP Nathan Kofi Boakye, assured the people of continual maintenance of peace and order in the area.
He urged residents to volunteer and cooperate with the police to protect lives and property.
Mr Boakye urged the people to be law-abiding and avoid any act that could be in conflict with the law.
The Asantehene, who was accompanied by his wife, Lady Julia, inspected a kente weaving workshop where some of the pupils exhibited their wares.
