Street named after Dr Ogbordjor at Konongo

The Asante Akyem Central Municipal Assembly in the Ashanti Region has named a street after the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the First Klass Hospital, Dr Steve Ogbordjor, for his outstanding contribution to the development in the area.

Known as Dr Ogbordjor Link,  the road from the premises of the First Klass Hospital, links the Tahiru Abdallah Street to the Imam Mansuru Street.

This has been occasioned by the Street Naming and Property Address System being piloted in the Konongo-Zongo Electoral Area in the Asante Akyem Central Municipal Assembly in the Ashanti Region.

The exercise, being monitored by the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development, was supposed to come to an end by the close of September in all Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies.

According to the Chief Executive of the Assembly, Alhaji Braimah Boyong, the exercise was piloted in three electoral areas in the municipality, namely Konongo Zongo, Odumase Ahyeayem and Konongo Ahemmronom.

He indicated to the Daily Graphic in an interview that as of September 29, 2014, the exercise in the piloted electoral areas had been completed of which 30 streets were named in the Konongo-Zongo Electoral Area.

He disclosed that as part of the conditions for the exercise, the streets were to be named after people who had contributed remarkably to the development of society but were dead, saying that Dr Ogbordjor remained the only person who was alive among the 30 who were named.

Alhaji Boyong further disclosed that all names for the streets were proposed by the Konongo Zongo community and approved by the assembly.

He said the proposal to name a street after Dr Ogbordjor was received with greater attention, having noted that for going into private practice as a medical practitioner, he had generated employment for a number of unemployed youth in the Konongo Zongo community coupled with his special attention for the poor.

The MCE recalled that Dr Ogbordjor from his personal resources built a mechanised borehole valued at GH¢10,000 for the Zongo Central Mosque.

Moreover, he said the same person from his personal resources had built a computer laboratory and library for the Konongo Urban Council Basic School, organised a number of free vacation classes for the pupils and insitituted a scholarship scheme for schoolchildren in the area.

Again, he said the same person had personally contributed to projects and activities organised by the assembly.

For his part, Dr Ogbordjor, in an interview with the Daily Graphic, expressed gratitude to both the assembly and the Konongo Zongo community for the honour done him, adding that he was motivated and inspired to contribute his quota to the socio-economic development of the area to complement the efforts of the government and called on all to share.
