Sir John accuse NDC of being behind Dr Bawumia's accident
The New Patriotic Party has accused the National Democratic Congress of plotting to assassinate
its vice presidential candidate in the 2012 elections, Dr Mahamudu
Bawumia.
Dr Bawumia was involved in an accident Sunday afternoon on the Bole-Bamboi road in the Northern region of Ghana.
The
car in which he was travelling had two tyre burst and
somersaulted several times.
The NPP leader sustained minor injuries but has been treated and discharged by doctors at the Lister Hospital in Accra.
Whilst
Dr Bawumia is yet to recover from the schock and injuries from the
accident, party executives claim they have cause to believe the accident
was part of a “diabolic” plot by the NDC to assassinate the NPP vice
presidential candidate who is one of the petitioners challenging the
verdict of the 2012 General elections.
According to the General Secretary of
the NPP, Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie, the party suspect national security
officials were behind the plot to assassinate Dr Bawumia and other
leading members of the NPP.
He said they suspected the security
officials tampered with the tyres of the brand new vehicle on which Dr
Bawumia was travelling.
According
to him, shortly before the accident, the chairman of the party Jake
Obetsebi Lamptey also had the tyres of his car bursting in rather
bizarre circumstances.
He said the plot is a desperate attempt
by the NDC and its security officials to wipe out Dr Bawumia and other
key officials of the party who are are key witnesses in the ongoing
presidential election petition at the Supreme Court.
Owusu
Afriyie did not understand how an ambulance was dispatched to the Kotoka International Airport
in Accra without para-medics to carry Dr Bawumia to the hospital, at a time when
nobody had alerted the national ambulance service about the accident.
Citing
the invasion of the NPP research office by soldiers and the burgling of
the office of Gloria Akuffo, one of the NPP lawyers directly involved
in the election case, Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie said John Mahama and his
national security officials have failed to stop the “mountain of
evidence” gathered by the NPP and have turned their attention on the
officials and key witnesses in the case.
He said just as
biblical Daniel and Abednego all triumphed over evil, Dr Bawumia and the
NPP leaders will escape all assassination plots orchestrated by the
NDC.
