Set realistic goals, stay focused — Youth urged

The youth have been asked to set realistic goals for themselves and stay focused in order to build a secure future for themselves.

The President of the Association of Spouses of Heads of Mission (ASOHOM) in Ghana, Mrs Hellen Kerali, who made the call in Accra yesterday, stressed that it took proper planning and judicious time management to achieve life’s goals.

“The youth ought to realise that the government, parents and other relations cannot do everything for them. They need to take up responsibility for their own lives. If you do not plan your time well, you are not only losing your wealth of opportunities but also you will be disrespecting other people,” she added.

She was speaking at the Osu community, where 38 senior high school (SHS) students who went through a three-month training session in information and communications technology (ICT) were presented with certificates.

ICT training

The training programme is the initiative of Amicus Onlus Ghana, a non-governmental organisation (NGO) that is into community empowerment through the use of ICT, in collaboration with the Osu-Klottey Sub-Metro Directorate of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA).

At the initial phase of the programme, the beneficiaries were taken through basic ICT training. This will be followed by the specialisation stage, where they will receive further training in computer hardware, computer software and networking.

Innovation

Mrs Kerali urged the beneficiaries to use the skills they had acquired to explore workable solutions to problems in their environment, adding that it was important for them to make use of the opportunities in the country rather than having an insatiable quest to seek greener pastures abroad.

The President of Amicus Onlus, Dr Caesar Atuire, encouraged the students to continue with the next phase of the programme, when they would be taught specific ICT skills according to their areas of interest.

He also advised them to take the ICT training sessions seriously to make them useful to themselves and the society after undergoing the training.

Other speakers at the event asked the beneficiaries to remain committed and put the skills they had acquired into practice.
