Road accidents claimed 231 lives in B/A Region
The Brong Ahafo Region recorded 231 deaths from 474 road accidents between January and September this year.
A total of 611 people also sustained various injuries in those accidents.
According to statistics from the Brong Ahafo Regional Office of the National Road Safety Commission (NRSC), 482 accidents were recorded involving 682 vehicles, with 188 deaths and 699 injuries, in the same period last year.
Sensitisation
The Brong-Ahafo Regional Planning Officer of the NRSC, Mr Kwasi Agyenim Boateng, who disclosed this in an interview with the Daily Graphic in Sunyani yesterday, said the commission had intensified its sensitisation programme to educate drivers and other road users on safety measures to minimise road crashes in the region.

As part of the awareness programme, he said, the commission was embarking on visits to bus terminals in all the 27 districts in the region to educate road users on road safety regulations.
According to him, the upsurge in road accidents in the region and the country had necessitated the educational and sensitisation campaigns.
He appealed to the various transport operators to ensure that their vehicles were always in good condition.
Appeal
Mr Boateng advised people residing along major roads in the region against the construction of illegal speed humps on the roads, as that practice contributed to accidents.
He cautioned drivers against drink-driving, overloading, speeding, wrongful overtaking and disregard for road signs, especially during the Yuletide.
He also asked drivers to be careful during the harmattan season by putting on their fog lights when driving at dawn or parked by the roadside for easy identification by other road users.
