The Yaa Asantewaa roundabout at Ejisu in the Ashanti Region which was recently renovated and redecorated has been unveiled. The restoration work was aimed at enhancing the tourism potential of the roundabout which has the statue of the legendary Nana Yaa Asantewaa, a heroine of the Ashantis.

The statue which cost GH¢150,000 was erected as part of the beautification process and in recognition of the achievements of Nana Yaa Asantewaa, particularly her struggle for the Ashanti Kingdom during the colonial times. The sculpture was funded by Nana Afrane Okesse IV, Omanhene of the Ejisu Traditional area, and Nana Kofi Opoku, a businessman, in collaboration with the Ejisu/Juaben Municipal Assembly.

Speaking at the unveiling ceremony, the District Chief Executive for Ejisu-Juaben Municipal Assembly, Mr Kwaku Afrifah Yamoah Ponko, said with the roundabout project now completed the youth would have the opportunity to be inspired to learn about the achievement, excellent leadership and struggles of the celebrated Nana Yaa Asantewaa.

He said her struggle and fight against the English colonial masters for the return of the Golden Stool which they took from the Ashantis was not only in the interest of Ejisuman but for the whole of Ashanti.

He urged Ghanaians to appreciate and recognise the achievements of persons who offered selfless and effective leadership and were committed to the development of the nation.

Mr Yamoah Ponko lauded the efforts of the chiefs and people of Ejisu for recognising the accomplishments of Nana Yaa Asantewaa.

Nana Afrane Okesse IV said the people of Ejisu remembered and loved Nana Yaa Asantewaa for her motherly love and sacrificial leadership for the people of Ejisu and Ashanti in general.

He said Ejisuman had a lot of history behind it with regard to the struggles for freedom and development of the Ashanti nation. He, therefore, urged the people of Ejisu to elect selfless and committed assembly and unit committee members who would  shoulder responsibilities geared towards the development of the town.
