Public Accounts Committee queries Ministry of Tourism
The 2013 Auditor General's Report has disclosed that the Wa office of the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts had delayed the lodgment of GHc12,670 revenue into a bank account as required by Financial Administration Act (FAA).
The report, therefore, recommended that the revenue received from collectors should be lodged with the bank within the 24 hours required by the FAA.
The Minister of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Mrs Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare and her team were at the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) sitting in Accra on Thursday to respond to the query and other queries raised in the 2011, 2012 and 2013 Auditor General's reports.
On the delayed lodgment, the officials admitted that the delays were in contravention of the 24 hours by the FAA.
They said the GH¢12,670 was for accumulated delays for a year, and indicated that some of the delays were for between three days and one week.
The report revealed that the Centre for National Culture in Tamale had failed to take rent amounting to GHc3,966 from owners of kiosks.
The officials said the centre had since recovered the rent from the kiosk owners.
According to the report, the Sunyani office of the Centre for National Culture had made payments totalling GHc1,911 without taking receipts.
The officials told the PAC that they had gone for all the receipts to back the payments.
CHRAJ
The 2013 Auditor General's Report disclosed that some leaflets purchased by the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) were missing, and recommended that the leaflets be retrieved.
The acting Commissioner of CHRAJ, Mr Richard Quayson, told the PAC that CHRAJ had terminated the appointment of the officer involved.
The report indicated that some dockets on compensation were not available at some of the district offices of CHRAJ.
Mr Quayson said the dockets were taken to the regional CHRAJ offices for vetting at the time of the auditing.
He said the dockets had since been returned to the district offices.
