The Wassa Akrotiri District Police Commander, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Mr Isaac Kuminpah, told the Daily Graphic that information picked by the police indicated that while Banda was on a visit to Kumasi, he called Ohenewaa and claimed to have heard a male voice in the background.
He said although Ohenewaa, with whom Banda had children, claimed it was not true, Banda took offence.
He said on Banda’s return to Abreshia, he allegedly picked a quarrel with Ohenewaa, and shot and killed her instantly.
Mr Kuminpah said Banda fled the town soon after the incident, leaving the wife in a pool of blood.
Lynching
He said while members of the community were busily preparing for the Christmas eve celebrations, they saw the suspect and beat him to death.
He said the police got wind of the incident after the suspect had already been lynched.
