Minister presents sanitation materials to Central Region
The Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Alhaji Collins Dauda, yesterday presented 10,000 litter bins to the Central Regional Coordinating Council (CRCC) to be distributed to all the districts in the region.
Other items presented included 100 pairs of Wellington boots, 100 long brooms, 50 wheelbarrows, 50 machetes and 50 shovels to support the upcoming National Sanitation Day (NSD) exercise to be hosted by the region on Saturday, August 1, 2015.
The presentation also formed part of a one-week decentralisation tour of the region by the ministry to bring local governance to the doorstep of the people.
Distribute the bins
In presenting the items, Alhaji Dauda advised the various district chief executives (DCEs) to not keep the litter bins in the store rooms of the assemblies but to distribute them as directed.
"These litter bins are not store materials. They are to be sent to vantage places in the region, such as schools, lorry parks, along the streets and where people converge," he said.
He said one of the purposes for the distribution of the litter bins was to make it convenient for people to dump their waste while they undertook their activities in town.
Alhaji Dauda suggested that in order to avert the possibility of people using the litter bins as storage facilities, all DCEs should perforate the bins.
He also advised them to label the bins to prevent them from getting stolen.
Support laudable
Receiving the items, the Central Regional Minister, Mr Aquinas Quansah, lauded the ministry for its support for the upcoming exercise and expressed optimism that the items would help make the exercise successful.
He urged all members of the public to get involved in the exercise to make it successful.
