Manhyia announces three-day rites for late Asantehemaa

The Manhyia Palace has announced a three-day burial rites for the late Queen mother of the Asante Kingdom, Nana Afia Kobi Serwaa Ampem II, to be climaxed with a private burial on January 19, 2016.

According to a detailed programme released at Manhyia Tuesday, the 13th Asantehemaa will be laid in state at the Asantehemaa's Palace, Manhyia, from midnight on Monday, January 16, till the forenoon of Thursday, January 19.

The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, will sit in state from 11 am to 5 pm each day of the burial ceremony to receive homage from sympathisers.

Per the programme, the body of the late Asantehemaa will be moved to the Saint Cyprian's Anglican Church, Kumasi on Thursday, January 19 for pre burial service.

After the church service, the body will be conveyed to the Bantama Royal Mausoleum for the final traditional rites and wreath laying after which it will be taken to the Breman Mausoleum for a private internment.

Nana Afia Kobi Serwaa Ampem II died peacefully in her sleep on Monday, November 14, 2016 at the age of 109, having reigned for 39 years.
