Make your expertise available to nation - Veep tells FGBMFI

VIice-President Kwesi Amissah-Arthur has asked members of the Full Gospel Business Men’s Fellowship International (FGBMFI) to put their expertise and professional skills at the disposal of the nation for development.

He also underscored the need for youth mentorship and urged the fellowship to use its presence on university campuses and members’ interaction with the youth to encourage and mentor the youth through internship programmes.

Mr Amissah-Arthur was speaking at the opening of the 2015 Convention of the FGBMFI in Accra yesterday.

The three-day convention, which is on the theme: “Renew our days as of old”, has assembled delegates from Ghana and other West African countries.

The Chief Justice, Mrs Justice Georgina Theodora Wood, and the wife of the Vice-President, Mrs Matilda Amissah-Arthur, were among the dignitaries at the opening ceremony.

He said the current state of the country required the participation and development of youth entrepreneurship to make for accelerated development, adding that it was to achieve that objective that the Youth Enterprise Support (YES) scheme was established to give the youth financial support to set up their own businesses.

“The creative and innovative drive of the youth needs to find expression in the private sector of the economy and we need to learn to take calculated risks, set up our own businesses so that gradually our nation will increase its capacity and become less dependent on imports,” Mr Amissah-Arthur stressed.

Charge

He said the youth, for their part, needed to emulate the lifestyles and embrace the ethical practices of members of the fellowship in the various professions.

“We certainly need ethical leadership in companies and institutions to move to higher heights,” he said.

Mr Amissah-Arthur said as a service arm of the church, the FGBMFI had a responsibility to preserve the integrity of the Christian faith and champion the cause of truth, order and morality in view of the current wave of excesses and adulteration undermining the faith.

Economy

Turning the spotlight on the economy, he said the government was determined not to repeat the mistakes of the past, for which reason the commitment to eliminate payments to ghost workers and unaffordable subsidies was still on course.

Positive impact

The National President of the FGBMFI Ghana, Mr George Prah, had earlier said the fellowship had committed itself to charting a course that would impact positively on society.

He said corruption was undermining the development agenda of the country and stressed that a leadership of sound integrity and value was what was needed to salvage the situation.

Mr Prah said the fellowship inculcated what he described as discipleship in the youth, adding that the convention would hold a youth summit to help build the next generation of leaders.
