Lions commended for serving underprivileged
The Governor for District 403-A2 of Lions Clubs International, Lion Diamilatou Aka-Anghui, has commended Lions of Ghana for their roles in rendering support for the needy in the country.
She said the various projects, programmes and activities the Lions had been undertaking deserved commendation and urged them to continue to support the less-privileged, to put smiles on their faces.
The Lions District Governor, who arrived in the country from Cote d’Ivoire for a one-week official visit, said this when she addressed Ghana Lions Club’s members at different meetings in the country.
She said it was only when Lions rendered support to needy commununities or identified individuals, in times of crisis, that they would have satisfied their objectives.

“When you support people or someone in need, you would have performed your expected roles as Lions, and you would gain some satisfaction because you have made others smile or saved a life”, she stated.
In addition to what the Lions have been doing, Lion Aka-Anghui said, they should undertake community needs assessment to identify the real needs of people to ensure that they provided them with their priority needs.
The visiting Lions Clubs Governor is in the country with her Secretary, Lion Nelly Coulibaly, to visit Lions Clubs for situational reports from the various club presidents.
The reports mentioned their programmes for the year, as well as their challenges and efforts the clubs were putting in place to increase quality membership as well as raise funds for projects.
Lion Aka-Anghui’s visit is in line with her mandate for the 2014-2015 Lionistic Year. She briefed the members about her theme, which is, “Engaged for True Action” as well as that of the Lions International President, Lion Joe Preston, which is, “Strengthening the Pride”.
The District Governor is responsible for six countries, namely Cote d’Ivoire, Ghana, Togo, Benin, Liberia and Sierra-Leone.
Projects and donations
Lions of Ghana have provided an eye-care centre in Tema and are contributing towards an eye care training project at Korle Bu. They have also built a hearing-aid assessment centre in Cape-Coast, provided water tanks, built a library and assisted the Akropong School for the Blind.
The Lions are also putting up a school block in Ashanti Region. They regularly undertake screening for eye problems and diabetes, as well as diabetes awareness programmes.
Inspections/interactions
The District Governor also interacted with some government officials. At the meeting, she expressed her appreciation for the various support Lions Clubs were receiving from them.
Lion Aka-Anghui expressed the hope that the already existing cordial relationship between the state and Lions would continue to grow.
