L’Oreal donates to Abokobi Health Post
L’Oreal West Africa, a subsidiary of the world’s leading beauty company L’Oreal, has donated a multi-purpose structure equipped with furniture and computers to the Abokobi Health Post in the Greater Accra Region as part of the company’s Citizen’s Day.
Citizen’s Day is a day set aside annually, where L’Oreal employees in all the 130 countries where it operates undertake activities aimed at giving back to the community.
The structure, designed to seat up to 120 people, will be used to provide focused antenatal counseling for women in the community as well as serve as the location for community health communication.
The Director of Health Services Ga East, Dr Julius Dadebo, welcomed this contribution to the post’s maternal health capabilities and expressed hope that it would limit the need for women to travel long distances to seek care for maternal health issues.
“If you are able to counsel women, they have no option but to come. Now women in the community can get the services they need,” he said.
The Managing Director for L’Oréal West Africa, Idorenyen Enang, said: “L’Oréal West Africa has a strong focus on corporate social responsibility, so we are excited to begin this project, and as we go on we want to measure progress and move the needle into other forms of empowerment for this community.
“So it’s not only going to end with health, we’ll be looking at other economic activities as well where we can help the women grow and get better for themselves and their families.”
After a short ceremony officially donating the structure, complete with furniture, computers and some L’Oréal products, L’Oréal West Africa staff spent the daycleaning up the surrounding environment.
